Creating isn't a choice for me. It's this gnawing, incessant beast that is always in the back of my mind. After studying photography at the School of the Art Institute of Chicago and receiving my BFA in 2009 I moved to California. I found that I was missing the ability to create and make with my hands and I was finding myself more and more inspired by fabrics, yarn and texture. I built a small frame loom in my garage and started experimenting with techniques and materials. Weaving is a fantastic medium, allowing for experimentation, mistakes and successes. Embracing the inherent limitations of tapestry weaving I've started working larger and pushing my use of color, compositions and material. I've started teaching others how to start tapestry weaving with their own frame looms and it's a thrilling feeling to introduce others to a technique I am so enamored with.
